Social Business Training at Womans Craft Center 3, 4 & 5 March 2020

A three day business course was hosted by the NCDO and the Osotua Foundation at the Womans Craft Center. In total around 30 participants from different age groups both man and woman attended the course. The course was designed by David Kairo And Lucy Mbaye, together they combined several techniques to actively engage everyone who participated in the course to think, discuss and present together which resulted in a very high level of education. Many of the participants took three days off to be able to participate in this course and all of them were satisfied with the results.

Internship and Research

Since february Wageningen University student Declan van Herwaarden started a combined internship and thesis research at the Osotua Foundation.

"My whole life I have been fascinated by wildlife and how to create sustainable habitats to see them thrive. When I joined university I wanted to learn the ability to combine social and technical skills to co-create and design sustainable systems for human-development, that leave space open for wildlife to thrive in the same communal areas. The Osotua Foundation has given me an opportunity to do this in Kenya! Here I research the possibility of re-designing existing water resources to reduce human-wildlife conflicts on communal pastures.

Additional to my thesis research I am a part time intern for the Osotua Foundation in which I assist with daily tasks and long term planning for the community of Nkoilale in collaboration with the Nkoilale Community Development Organisation (NCDO). At the moment we are making a start-up for ecotourism so the NCDO can fund itself in the future. With this we try to find sustainable local initiatives and help in setting up these projects. One of those is implementing a showcase organic vegetable garden that incorporates greywater recycling systems.

Living in Nkoilale means that you are in a truly remote area and will have to fend for yourself, but if you are open to the Kenyan culture it will be an amazing experience as the people are very polite, eager and interested to learn from you as well to show you how you can learn from them."

GEZOCHT: FACEBOOKSPECIALIST / SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETEER
